Muskogee Housing to Begin Pursuing Fraud Cases In District Court
In an effort to collect funds owed to Muskogee Housing’s Housing Choice Voucher program, as well as deter future cases of fraud, the agency will begin filing civil cases against offenders this month. Instances of fraudulently failing or misrepresenting income and assets is on the rise, which results in overpayment of assistance on behalf of the offending family. All families participating in the voucher program certify that the information they provide is true and accurate and that there are civil and criminal penalties for violating the assistance agreements.
In addition to civil cases being filed Muskogee Housing will also forward fraud case information to the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Office of Inspector General. The Inspector General’s office is responsible for filing federal criminal proceedings against individuals who have defrauded federally funded housing programs.
