FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN CONTINUES
The partial shutdown of the federal government continues with no immediate resolution in sight. Muskogee Housing relies on federal funding to assist families in various programs, such as the Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8), Public Housing, and elderly/disabled housing developments.
As was previously relayed to the public, the federal government has provided funds for Muskogee Housing programs for February but nothing beyond that. This means that housing assistance payments for Section 8 participants will not be paid in March if the government remains shut down. Additionally, Muskogee Housing will have no choice but to expire unused vouchers as of Feb. 5th if the shutdown is not over by that date. Other services, including resident services for public housing tenants will be affected as well.
Housing Choice Voucher participants are encouraged to discuss options with their property owner or manager starting now in the event that March's assistance payments are not made available from the federal government.
Muskogee Housing is also urging everyone to contact Congress and the White House to tell them how this is affecting their housing.
